Jeremy Garelick will team up with Paramount to rewrite and direct “Baywatch,” a bigscreen comedy based on the syndicated series about sexy lifeguards that starred David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson.

The film will be Garelick’s directing debut. The writer has penned “Murray at Large” and most recently did an uncredited rewrite of “The Hangover” for director Todd Phillips.

This news comes in the wake of a slew of recent remake and strange film adaptaion news, including a reported adaptation of the Bill Shatner cop TV show, “T.J. Hooker” and a pending adaptaion of the popular children’s toy, View-Master.

The project will be co-financed by Paramount and Cold Spring Pictures.

Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson are producing with “Baywatch” creators Michael Berk, Doug Schwartz, Greg Bonann and Michelle Berk.

“It felt like the template to do a movie that was similar to ‘Stripes’ and ‘Police Academy,’ the comedies I loved growing up,” Garelick said. “Rather than trying to pitch the tone, I figured it would be easier to write the first act to convey who these characters were,” Garelick said.
