Tired of remakes, reboots, and worn-out old franchises getting recycled and repackaged for perpetually gullible public consumption? Well, get ready for more. A new version of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” is likely to get the big screen treatment…again.

Joss Whedon, the creator of the original character, is not involved, and the idea is still without a studio home, but a couple of Vertigo Entertainment guys, Roy Lee and Doug Davison are working with Fran Rubel Kuzui, the director of the original film and her husband, Kaz Kuzui, on the project, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Contrary to popular belief, Kuzui Enterprises has owned the rights since the original film, not Whedon, which means that his involvement would have not effect on the project at all.

The new “Buffy” film will reportedly have no connections to the popular TV series and will not feature familiar characters like like Angel, Willow, Xander or Spike.  The developers are planning to emulate J.J. Abrams’ reboot of “Star Trek” and reboot the entire franchise.

Luckily for them, time travel won’t be necessary as “Buffy” has a device already built-in to the mythology that works perfectly for this very purpose.  You see, each generation has its own vampire slayer that acts as its defender, so no alternate dimension or disruptions of the space/time continuum will be required to create a darker, bigger, movie with franchise potential.
