Russell Crowe is in early negotiations to reprise his role as British sea capatain, Jack Aubrey, in a new “Master and Commander” movie based on Patrick O’Brian’s series of novels set during the Napoleonic Wars.
The AP reports that, according to Crowe, a script based largely on O’Brian’s 11th novel in the 20-novel series entitled “The Reverse of the Medal” had been written, but that no decisions have yet been made.
“There’s still a long way to go,” he said, adding that talks were still ongoing in acquiring the rights to the novel.
The 2003 film wasn’t a direct adaptation of one particular entry in the series of novels but rather a loosely based representation of the general property.
1986′s “The Reverse of the Medal” follows Aubrey through the Caribbean in his ship HMS Surprise, where he meets his illegitimate son Samuel Panda, a Catholic priest born of a one-night stand.
