Warner Bros plans to re-release “The Dark Knight” on IMAX screens throughout the country in January 2009, just in time to refresh the memories of Oscar voters. It’s not yet clear if it’ll hit standard screens as well.
In addition to increasing their chances for a shiny little statue, there’s a good chance this ploy could result in TDK surpassing James Cameron’s little romance film “Titanic” as the biggest grossing film of all time. It has only about $88 million or so left to get there.
Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, a Warner Bros source said, βItβs just a matter of bringing it back as a reminder for people.β I’m not so sure the second biggest movie in history will be forgotten so quickly, but I guess there’s nothing wrong with being prepared.
