Warner Bros plans to re-release “The Dark Knight” on IMAX screens throughout the country in January 2009, just in time to refresh the memories of Oscar voters. It’s not yet clear if it’ll hit standard screens as well.

In addition to increasing their chances for a shiny little statue, there’s a good chance this ploy could result in TDK surpassing James Cameron’s little romance film “Titanic” as the biggest grossing film of all time. It has only about $88 million or so left to get there.

Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, a Warner Bros source said, β€œIt’s just a matter of bringing it back as a reminder for people.” I’m not so sure the second biggest movie in history will be forgotten so quickly, but I guess there’s nothing wrong with being prepared.

No Way! Is this for real? I never got to see it in IMAX so this is great news. Seems a little greedy, but I don’t care. Also, Heatth Ledjer soooo deserves the oscar for this performance

@euginie, yes, this is for real. I read this on some other website and it is sounds for real. I personally think it’s kind of greedy, as the movie has already made 512 million in the US, and almost 1 billion internationally, but I can see why they would do it. If you can make the money, why not? Ledger was really great too
