“Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs” animated film premiered in MoscowDisney-Pixar’s “Finding Nemo,” the first animated film to exceed $500 million in gross international earnings, has been the king of the animation castle since 2003 with total earnings exceeding $525 million for Buena Vista. But that record may be in jeopardy.

20th Century Fox’s “Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs” has already sailed by $500 million with a current tally of $514.7 million. If calculations hold steady Nemo’s record should fall as early as this weekend.

In only its fifth week, “Ice Age” still maintains incredibly wide distribution currently playing on more than 9,500 screens internationally.

In recent history, DreamWorks Animation’s “Shrek” franchise has enjoyed unprecedented success with “Shrek 2″ sitting at $479 million and “Shrek The Third” at $476 million.

But a lost clown fish and Mike Myers’ ugly, smelly, but charming ogre apparently don’t have the appeal of a prehistoric squirrel hopelessly scrambling after an elusive acorn.
