Hugh Jackman Presents Joel Greys New Book 1.3 - Images From My PhoneHugh Jackman has just signed on to play famous American showman, P.T. Barnum, in “The Greatest Showman on Earth” for 20th Century Fox, reports Variety.

Jenny Bicks (“Sex and the City”) penned the screenplay which will be “an original contemporary musical.”

Laurence Mark (“Dreamgirls”) will produce along with Jackman and John Palermo.

Jackman will play the famous and infamous showman responsible for developing the three-ring circus he called “The Greatest Show on Earth.”  The narrative will also focus on Barnum’s obsession with singer, Jenny Lind — the so-called Swedish Nightingale.

The Lind role is being written for Anne Hathaway, though she hasn’t officially signed on to the project.
