Jackie Earle Haley to Play Freddy Krueger in ‘Elm Street’ Reboot

Rorshach himself, Jackie Earle Haley, has signed on to play iconic horror villain, Freddy Krueger in the reboot of beloved horror franchise, “A Nightmare on Elm Street.”

Inspired by the success of the New Line/Platinum Dunes franchise “Friday the 13th,” relaunch, which has grossed $65 million domestically to date, the studio assembled a production team of Michael Bay, Brad Fuller John Rickard, and Andrew Form to produce the “Elm Street” project.

Samuel Bayer is set to direct from an existing script by Wesley Strick.

Freddy Krueger, originally played by Robert Englund in 1984, is a mythical villain who appears in the dreams of teenagers and kills them as they sleep.  The success of the original spawned nine sequels and two TV series.

Haley’s next project will be the Martin Scorsese directed, “Shutter Island,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and produced by Phoenix Pictures.
