We reported some time ago that the excellent Swedish vampire flick, 2008′s “Let the Right One In,” was already getting the remake treatment via “Cloverfield” director, Matt Reeves, and would be retitled, “Let Me In.” Grumbles aside, it looks like this project may have something to offer after all.
Variety reports that Richard Jenkins, the stellar character actor who you’ve seen in “Step Brothers” and last year’s gem, “The Visitor,” has joined the cast, along with Kodi Smit-McPhee and Chloe Moretz.
Flick is a coming-of-age horror story that centers on a prepubescent boy and his relationship with the new girl in town, who also happens to be a vampire. Smit-McPhee and Moretz will play the kids, and Jenkins will play the girl’s vampire-hunting care-taker.
Production is scheduled to get underway in the remaining months of 2009 in New Mexico.
Hammer Films, who acquired the remake rights at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival after considerable audience buzz, will produce, and is, with Overture, shooting for a 2010 release.
Jenkins’ next project is “Eat, Pray, Love” with Julia Roberts.
