“Are gringos falling from the sky?” Not exactly, but it sure seems like movies sequels are, and 1980s comedy classic “Three Amigos!” might meet a similar fate if star Martin Short has anything to say about it.
While promoting a recent stand-up show the 58-year old Short told Australia’s Jono & Dano radio show that John Landis’s “Three Amigos” was the funnest movie he’s ever worked and that he wouldn’t be opposed to doing a sequel.
Kind of a predecessor to “Tropic Thunder,” the original film starred Short along with legends Steve Martin and Chevy Chase as three vain, dimwitted, but hilarious unemployed actors hired to protect a Mexican village from bandits, though unaware that their situation was very real and their lives in serious danger.
Short also said he really believes the original film left room for a quality sequel as opposed to Hollywood’s trend of hasty, shoddy projects for the sake of box office opportunism.
