British director, Duncan Jones, will follow up his debut feature, the surprise indie sci-fi hit “Moon,” with another sci-fi thriller-mystery called “Mute.” It will be set in Berlin at a variety of locations, including at Studio Babelsberg, and will be a UK-German co-production.
Speaking to Screen Daily about the project, Jones said: “it will definitely be bigger than Moon, probably something up to $25 million,” he continued, “Moon is about alienation and isolation. The next one will have a different vibe. It’s not about one actor on their own, it’s an ensemble piece.”
Fenegan of London based Liberty Films, who produced Moon, will again join Jones on “Mute” which will be, “…about a woman whose disappearance causes a mystery for her partner, a mute bartender. When she disappears, he has to go up against the city’s gangsters.”
Shooting is expected to start at the beginning of next year.
Jones and Fenegan are hoping to repeat the success of the critical and fan favortite, “Moon,” which starred Sam Rockwell as an isolated miner/astronaut on the moon.
