Chai Vasarhelyi’s “I Bring What I Love: Youssou Ndour,” a music-laden documentary depicting the luminary Senegalese musician has been picked up by Shadow Distribution, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The Waterville, Maine-based independent distributor has acquired the North American rights to the film which chronicles Ndour, a devout Muslim, developing his “deeply personal and religious” album, “Egypt,” which he hopes will help promote a friendlier portrait of Islam.
But “Love” also chronicles the album’s disappointing reception among Muslims in Senegal, where it is denounced as blasphemous.
