Rumor: De Niro to Appear in Rodriguez’s ‘Machete’

Premiere Of My Life In Ruins At The 2009 Tribeca Film FestivalFresh from the rumor mill, the guys over at Bloody-Disgusting have a scoop from one of their fairly reliable anonymous sources that says that screen legend, Robert De Niro, will appear in Robert Rodriquez’s “Machete.”

According to their report, De Niro will play Senator McLaughlin in Rodriguez’s film about a blade-wielding, Mexican ex-federali named Machete, to be played by Danny Trejo, who disguises himself as a day laborer.  Machete gets double-crossed by a corrupt Senator McLaughlin and seeks revenge.

Other casting news from the anonymous source:

-Michelle Rodriguez (“Lost”, “Fast & Furious,”  “Avatar”) is said to be playing “Luz”
-Jonah Hill, the comedian who has starred in “Superbad” and the forthcoming Adam Sandler comedy “Funny People,” will play “Julio”.

Robert Rodriguez and Ethan Maniquis, who will be credited as co-directors, are set to begin filming July 29th.
