The same friendship and partnership that brought us “Jurassic Park,” “Twister,” and medical TV show, “ER,” will team up again for the pirate tale, “Pirate Latitudes.”
USA Today reports that Steven Spielberg is currently developing a film based on the posthumously published novel by his friend, the late Michael Crichton. It is an adventure story set off the coast of Jamaica circa 1665.
David Koepp, who previously adapted Crichton’s “Jurassic Park,” and “The Lost World” for the screen is on board to write the script.
Spielberg will produce, but has not yet decided if he will also direct.
DreamWorks explains the novel as the story of “a daring plan to infiltrate Port Royal, one of the world’s richest and most notorious cities, and raid a Spanish galleon filled with treasure.”
Spielberg says about the novel, “Michael wrote a real page-turner that already seems suited for the big screen. Michael and I have had almost two decades of solid collaborations. Whenever I made a film from a Michael Crichton book or screenplay, I knew I was in good hands. Michael felt the same, and we like to think he still does.”
