WICHITA, Kan.—The Wichita Association for the Motion Picture Arts (WAMPA) and Tallgrass Film Festival today announced the film lineup for the 2009 Cinema Alfresco season. The series of films under the stars will take place at 8 p.m. Thursdays from May 28 through July 9 with the exception of June 18. All screenings are presented at The Brickyard, 129 North Rock Island, and are free of charge.
The 2009 Cinema Alfresco theme, “Roadside Attractions: It’s the Journey, Not the Destination,” includes films that feature brothers on a mission and sisters in crime, as well as the five-Oscar-winning classic It Happened One Night (1934) starring Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert, and the John Cusack favorite, The Sure Thing (1985). A complete season schedule follows.
Each feature film will be preceded by a short film that has been previously screened at the Tallgrass Film Festival. A drawing for a pair of All Access Passes to Tallgrass, (a $300 value), which is schedule for Oct. 22-25, 2009, will take place each week. Winners must be present to win.
Doors open at 7 p.m. with kitchen service available. Enter at east and west doors. Bring your ID. All ages are welcome, but attendees must be 21 or older to drink alcohol. Cinema Alfresco food and drink specials include $3 Tallgrass and Stella Artois draw beers, $3.50 Stella Artois bottles and $5 Brickyard burger and fry baskets.

It Happened One Night (1934)
Dir: Frank Capra, 105 minutes, UNRATED
Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert star in this five-Oscar-winning romantic comedy. Colbert is a spoiled heiress who runs away from her family. Gable is the reporter who is looking for a story, but ultimately falls in love with her.

The Blues Brothers (1980)
Dir: John Landis, 133 minutes, R
Jake Blues (John Belushi) fresh from prison, hits the road on a mission to put together his old band to save the home where he and brother Elwood (Dan Aykroyd) were raised. Along the way, they run into music greats and wild adventure.

Terminator (1984)
Dir: James Cameron, 107 minutes, R
Check out the original by director James Cameron. A human-like, unstoppable cyborg (Arnold Schwarzeneggar) takes a road trip from the future to kill Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton). Can it be stopped?

Thelma and Louise (1991)

Louise (Susan Sarandon) and Thelma (Geena Davis) jump in a ‘66 Thunderbird and cruise the road to escape their lives. Their journey turns into flight, however, when they run into trouble and are hunted by the authorities.

Dir: Quentin Tarantino, 114 minutes, R
Quentin Tarantino’s contribution to the Grindhouse set about two separate groups of women out for a girls’ getaway who are stalked by a scarred stuntman using his “death proof” cars to execute his murderous plans.

The Sure Thing (1985)
Dir: Rob Reiner, 100 minutes, PG-13
Rob Reiner’s film about college student Gib (John Cusack), who plans a cross-country trip to get laid. He ends up traveling with a young woman (Daphne Zuniga) and they are thrust together on a road trip from hell. Somewhere along the way, they find each other’s company tolerable.
