WICHITA, KAN.—The Wichita Association for the Motion Picture Arts (WAMPA) and Tallgrass Film Festival will present a special preview screening of the just completed film, “The Jazz Baroness,” in celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month. As part of Tallgrass Third Thursdays, this brand new British documentary will screen at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 16 at the Warren East Theater, 11611 E. 13th St., in Wichita, Kan.

In honor of the preview status of this screening—one of the very first in the United States—tickets are FREE of charge for everyone. Tickets are available at the Warren East box office starting April 9.

“The Jazz Baroness,” directed by Hannah Rothschild, produced by the BBC and narrated by actor Helen Mirren, documents the passion of British heiress Baroness Panonnica Rothschild de Koenigswarter for jazz music and in particular, jazz genius, Thelonious Monk. The director—great niece of the Baroness—writes: “In 1951 the beautiful married mother of five left home and went to New York in search of the man who wrote “Round Midnight”. She found him and this is the extraordinary account of what happened next. A journey that took her from Harlem to Hell and back again … Mirren reads Pannonica’s words and Sonny Rollins, Quincy Jones, TS Monk junior, Roy Haynes, Curtis Fuller, The Duchess of Devonshire and other luminaries tell their side of the story. This film is the result of a ten year search to solve the puzzle of Pannonica.” And of course, one of the highlights of the film, is its wonderful soundtrack.
